Isle of Ely Liberal Democrats

The results of the 2009 County Council elections are now out. Congratulations to Cllr Nigel Bell and Cllr Sue Austen, who have retained Ely N & E and Ely S & W respectively. Commiserations to Cllr Gareth Wilson, whose hard-fought and valiant campaign in Haddenham could not quite beat the sitting Tory councillor. For the County Council as a whole it’s much the same story - the Liberal Democrats have lost some seats and gained others, but we now have 23 County Councillors which is the same total as before the election.

Next up - the General Election. No doubt Gordon Brown will delay it as long as he can - the last allowable date is 3rd June 2010. However, the way things have been going recently, we might get an election as soon as the Autumn. Whenever it happens - we need to be ready.
